1K a year Ferrum College is currently seeking an individual to be the next Human Resources Specialist.
This individual will serve as administrative support for the Human Resources Department and Student Employment.
Provides first point of contact with most applicants, staff, faculty, and guests with general HR business.
Receives phone calls for the HR Department and Student Employment.
Responds to outside requests for employee verification and reference checks.
Prepare and set-up all appointments and meetings.
Essential Functions:
Organizes, inputs, and maintains computerized employee master files/systems relating to hiring, employment/compensation/benefit changes, and terminations; maintains paper employee personnel files; ensures historical personnel records are maintained according to retention requirements.
Notifies appropriate departments of personnel changes to ensure appropriate support services are provided.
Provides new hire orientation including presenting general instructions to new employees and collecting and inputting their personal data.
Provide training, notification, information, and support to employees on all College benefits.
Investigate and respond to daily related inquiries from employees.
Calculates and inputs personnel actions, including hires/terminations, pay, and benefits for bi-weekly and monthly payrolls.
Maintains tickler files relating to future personnel changes.
Sets up exit interviews with employees along with forwarding the Exit Interview Form.
Provides regular internal reports to supervisors, directors, and ELT as requested.
Handles incoming new hire student papers, such as tax forms, I-9's, direct deposit forms, etc.
and processes new and returning work study hires for employment.
Serves as HR webmaster, creating and maintaining website documents.
Creates electronic forms and other data-collection documents.
Works with Associate VP of HR to improve departmental efficiency through such technology.
Receives work-related injury reports; works with Assistant Director of HR to investigate and track Workers Compensation claims.
Maintains logs and prepares OSHA 300 reports.
Maintains the Directory, Organizational Chart, HR handbook, policies and procedures in current and accessible manner.
Maintains and updates employee benefit records:
vacation, sick, and personal time, and payroll deductions for benefits.
Serves as liaison with retirees on all retirement issues, including changes in benefits/rates.
Collect payments as necessary.
Maintains file of enrollment and deletion forms for insurance/retirement purposes on all employees.
Reconcile and prepare billing statements for benefit plans including health, dental, life, STD/LTD, vision, flexible spending accounts, and other miscellaneous benefit plans with payroll deductions.
Complete payment for some benefit services on-line.
Tracks purchase orders for the department.
Reconciles and prepares billing statements for retirement plans and transmits information electronically on-line.
Reconciles vacation/sick/personal time reports.
Responsible for processing employee IDs.
Under direction of Assistant Director of HR, responsible for COBRA, FMLA, Short Term and Long-Term Disability, including:
notifications, contact with carrier and employees, filing claims, and processing of related payables and receivables.
Maintains records and provides back-up for the College for investigations and hearings.
Assist with planning, coordination, and execution of department-related events and programs such, dedications, recognition events, etc.
Provide birthday list for President and distributes signed Birthday Cards to the employees Supervision of work study students; trains student workers on confidentiality, and how to handle incoming calls, filing of records, and greeting of guests.

in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or related field.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational; skills including paper and computerized records management.
Ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff.
Adaptability:
ability to work in a fast-paced environment and comfortable with change.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
